Mission and Objectives

IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The IOM Constitution recognizes the link between migration and economic, social and cultural development, as well as to the right of freedom of movement. IOM works in the four broad areas of migration management: Migration and development Facilitating migration Regulating migration Forced migration.

Context

Under the overall supervision of the Head of MHPSS unit and the direct supervision of IOM MHPSS team, the Online Volunteer will provide support to the finalization of the Layout for IOM manual on Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Emergencies and Displacement (Arabic version). The main objective of the assignment is to professionally finalize the design and format of the Arabic translated version of IOM MHPSS manual incorporating finalized content and visuals and preparing it for print and digital dissemination and support finalizing layout of MHPSS technical guidance note. IOM MHPSS unit is in the final stages of producing the Arabic version of IOM manual on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), intended to support practitioners and field staff. The manual is currently in Microsoft Word format and translated to Arabic. It now requires professional formatting and graphic design to prepare it for publication. The final output will be a high-quality, print-ready PDF using Adobe InDesign, developed in accordance with IOM and UN design and branding guidelines. The publication will be distributed both digitally and in print across Arabic-speaking contexts. To support this final production stage, IOM is seeking the support of a skilled Arabic-speaking UN Volunteer with expertise in graphic design, document layout, and InDesign publishing. In addition to that, the UN volunteer will support the finalization of the layout of IOM technical guidance note (translated versions).

Task Description

The main objective of the assignment is to professionally finalize the design, layout and format of the Arabic translated version of IOM MHPSS manual incorporating finalized content and visuals and preparing it for print and digital dissemination. We are looking for one (1) online volunteer to support the finalization of the Layout for IOM manual on Community-Based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) in Emergencies and Displacement (Arabic version) and IOM technical guidance notes (translated versions). 1. Review the final Arabic version of the MHPSS manual in Microsoft Word 2. Develop a suitable layout in Adobe InDesign, following IOM/UN branding and design standards, and tailored to Arabic-language formatting conventions (e.g. right-to-left layout). 3. Format all Arabic content (text, tables, boxes, annexes) into InDesign, ensuring typographic accuracy, correct directionality, and design consistency. 4. Integrate relevant visuals, icons, photos, and infographics 5. Ensure accessibility and usability standards are met 6. Conduct thorough quality assurance to ensure the Arabic text is displayed and aligned properly across pages and sections. 7. Produce a final, print-ready PDF and a web-optimized version of the Arabic manual. 8. Deliver the packaged InDesign file and all associated assets to IOM. 9. Support in finalizing the layout of IOM technical guidance notes (translated versions). Note: IOM Manual on Community-based Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Emergencies and Displacement – Copy editing of Arabic translated version (231 pages/ approx. 83079 words).

Skills and experience
Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset.
