Mission and Objectives

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA supports: - Sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for all, particularly women and girls in more than 150 countries – home to more than 80 per cent of the world’s population. SRH includes; The health of pregnant women, especially the 10-15 million who face life-threatening complications each year Reliable access to modern contraceptives sufficient to benefit 20 million women a year Training of thousands of health workers, particularly midwives to help ensure at least 80 per cent of all child births are supervised by skilled attendants Prevention of teen and early pregnancies, complications of which are the leading cause of death for girls 15-19 years old Delivery of safe birth supplies, dignity kits and other life-saving materials to survivors of conflict and natural disaster - Prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), one of the most common forms of violence today affecting 1 in 3 women across the globe - Abandonment of female genital mutilation, which harms 3 million girls annually - Gender-responsive, age appropriate Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) - Efforts to end child marriage affecting 12 million girls every year - Countries in development of youth policies and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health policies and action plans. - Population census, demographic health surveys, research, data collection and analysis, which are essential for development planning as well as in humanitarian settings

Context

The Programme Support Specialist works under the direct supervision of the SRH and GBV team leaders based in Port Sudan and in collaboration with the UNFPA Heads of Suboffices to provide support to implementing partners (IPs) to efficiently deliver services and results under the Japan agreement. This position will assist in the implementation, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, communications and reporting of the project through its completion in March 2026, benefiting beneficiaries at state and locality levels ensuring high quality and accuracy of work. The Programme Support Specialist promotes results-based management and beneficiary/client-oriented approaches to maximize the impact of services through UNFPA IPs. She/he works in close collaboration with the relevant stakeholders; IPs, NGOs, operations and programme staff to ensure consistent programme delivery in line with UNFPA strategic programme interventions to help achieve desirable results.

Task Description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the GBV and SRH Team Leads with close collaboration with communications, M&E and operation leads or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Programme Support Specialist will: 1. Support for the implementation of the Japan-funded - UNFPA Program a. Assist the SRH team in supporting capacity strengthening to six EmONC (Emergency Obstetric and Neonatal Care) facilities and mobile teams, through operations, staffing and medical supplies b. Support the organization and roll out of planned training, including for midwives and clinical management of rape (CMR) c. Support the implementation of the roving team of community midwives in three states d. Assist the cash and voucher (CVA) lead in the implementation and roll out of cash for SRH e. Support the GBV Team Lead with the operationalization and capacity strengthening of one stop centers and confidential corners f. Assist the GBV team in the development and roll out of capacity building trainings g. Support the establishment and functioning of the community-based protection networks (CBPN), youth engagement, and community awareness h. Support GBV risk mitigation measures, including the provision of CVA modality in case management, referrals and awareness raising. 2. Monitoring and Evaluation, Reporting a. Support the program team and the M&E focal points in the collection of data, monitoring of activities, analysis of results, reporting, and impact of the Japan-funded project. 3. Communications a. Promote the visibility of Japan-funded projects, including visualizing the social value of the projects, and present it in an audience-friendly way. b. Gather content of relevant country efforts to develop communication materials for dissemination through social and traditional media channels. 4. Other a. Strengthen collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in Sudan, Japanese NGOs and the Japanese private sector b. Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s). Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities: ● Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day); ● Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country; ● Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities. ● Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.; ● Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers; ● Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): All International UN Volunteers Specialists are entitled to a monthly volunteer living allowance, the purpose of this allowance is to cover the basic living costs of the International UN Volunteer. The allowance is to ensure that the volunteer can sustain a basic, adequate, and safe lifestyle. The monthly allowance rate is a fixed rate for the duty station as established by UNV headquarters.
