Mission and Objectives

UN Women is the United Nations organization dedicated to promoting gender equality and women's empowerment. As a global advocate for women and girls, UN Women was established to accelerate the progress it will lead to improving women's living conditions and to respond to the needs they face around the world. UN Women supports UN Member States in setting international standards to achieve gender equality and works with governments and civil society to create the laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that standards are implemented effectively and that they truly benefit women and girls around the world. It works globally to make the Sustainable Development Goals a reality for women and girls, and promotes women's equal participation in all walks of life.

Context

In the framework of the shadow report being prepared by civil society, it is necessary to ensure an accurate and official translation of the document for its submission to the CEDAW Committee. This task is essential to guarantee that the analysis, observations, and recommendations formulated by civil society organizations are fully understood and duly considered throughout the Committee’s review process and in the monitoring of the State’s compliance with its international obligations.

Task Description

Online Volunteers will work under the coordination and guidance of the Program Specialist, who will provide continuous support, feedback, and access to reference materials and glossaries. Their main responsibilities will include: · Translating a 15 pages document from Spanish into English. · Ensuring linguistic accuracy, cultural relevance, and alignment with the organization’s tone and terminology. · Reviewing and proofreading translations as needed to maintain quality and consistency. · Submitting assigned translations within agreed deadlines. Learning Opportunities and Deliverables: Throughout the assignment, Online Volunteers will gain practical experience in international translation and report communication. Regarding the importance and confidence of this shadow report, the translation has to be done offline in a Word document. The document is approximately 15 pages (7,500 words) and should be completed by November 24th. Each volunteer will be responsible for translating approximately 6,000–7,500 words in an week (equivalent to 30,000–45,000 characters), in line with general translation productivity norms for volunteer translators. The workload will be distributed based on availability, priority, and daily communication needs.
