Context

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. UNFPA works to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. In Kyrgyzstan, UNFPA supports national partners in advancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, prevention of gender-based violence, youth empowerment, population data, and inclusive development. Effective communication and public advocacy are essential to promote informed decision-making, reduce stigma, mobilize partners, and strengthen accountability for rights-based development. Communication and Innovation Assistant will support the Country Office in implementing communication, visibility, and advocacy initiatives that amplify UNFPA’s programmatic impact and ensure consistent, high-quality outreach across digital, media, and event platforms. The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the UNFPA National Programme Analyst on Communications and Innovation, overall supervision of Head of the Office and in close collaboration with programme teams and partners.

Task Description

Under the direct supervision of the National Programme Analyst on Communications and Innovation, Communication and Innovation Assistant will support the following tasks: 1. Communication and Content Support ● Assist in drafting communication materials including social media posts, human-interest stories, press notes, key messages, and short briefs related to SRHR, youth, gender equality, and population data. ● Support preparation of visibility materials for campaigns, events, and donor reporting. 2. Digital and Social Media Engagement ● Support management of UNFPA Kyrgyzstan’s social media platforms (content scheduling, moderation, basic analytics) ● Create and publish social media content for UNFPA Kyrgyzstan’s digital platforms (Instagram, Tik-Tok, Facebook and Youtube, supporting day-to-day account management, including content scheduling, post publication, and moderation, in line with UNFPA corporate communication guidelines and country office priorities. ● Coordinate the scheduling of approved content across platforms to ensure consistent messaging and timely visibility of campaigns, international observances, key dates, and programme milestones. ● Monitor comments, direct messages, and user interactions, responding where appropriate and escalating sensitive, harmful, or safeguarding-related content in accordance with UNFPA digital safety and reputational risk protocols. ● Assist in producing digital content such as visuals, short videos, captions, and stories in Kyrgyz, Russian, and English ● Prepare monthly digital engagement reports. 3. Media and Event Support ● Support media monitoring and compilation of media coverage reports. ● Assist in organizing press briefings, public events, and campaigns (e.g. World Population Day, International Women’s Day and other). ● Support documentation of events through photos, short write-ups, and social media updates and save the digital content for each event in the CO drive folder. 4. Coordination and Knowledge Management ● Assist in maintaining communication archives, photo libraries, and digital assets. ● Support coordination with UN partners under UN Communication Group (UNCG) initiatives. ● Provide administrative and logistical support to the communications function as needed. 5. Other Duties ● Perform other communication-related tasks as required by UNFPA management.

Skills and experience
● At least 2 years of relevant experience in communications, media, social media management, or public information. ● Experience in social media management and content creation. ● Familiarity with digital tools (Canva, basic video editing, social media platforms). ● Experience working with NGOs, UN agencies, or development organizations is an asset. ● Experience and/or ability to conceptualize, design and implement advocacy and communication plans and successful campaigns.

Living conditions and remarks
As it is a national UN Volunteer's assignment, the UN volunteer shall organize his/her accommodation by themselves. As of February 2026, national UN Youth Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan receive approx. USD 813.03/month as a Volunteer Living Allowance. Other benefits include: 1. Pre-assignment -Entry lump sum - USD 400 (one-time payment) -Relocation costs – USD 200 at beginning and end of assignment if duty station is outside of commuting distance (as determined by UNV) 2. During assignment -Volunteer living allowance - USD 813.03/month (as mentioned above) -Learning - Access to UNV's learning and career development resources -Annual leave - 2.5 days per month -Insurance - Comprehensive coverage for health, life and malicious acts for the UN Volunteer and health insurance coverage for up to 3 eligible dependents.
