Mission and Objectives

UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency. Our mission is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.

Context

This United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment is part of UNFPA Uganda 10th Country Programme 2026-2030 which puts Adolescents and Youth at the Centre. UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s strategic plan, focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. UNFPA Uganda Country Office is starting the 10th CPD 2026-2030 which has as 4 outputs; - Output 1. Increased availability, accessibility and quality of equitable and integrated SRH/HIV/GBV services, particularly for vulnerable and underserved populations, including adolescents, youth and persons with disabilities, in both development and humanitarian settings. - Output 2. Strengthened multisectoral systems and community mechanisms for the prevention of and response to GBV and other harmful practices. - Output 3. Empowered adolescents, youth, women and persons with disabilities fully exercise their rights, actively participate in decision-making and lead the transformation toward inclusive national development. - Output 4. Strengthened national capacity and inclusive population data systems to generate, analyse and use disaggregated data for evidence-based decision-making, demographic resilience and accountability to the ICPD commitments. This assignment will majorly focus will be on output 3 though recognising the interconnectedness of all outputs.

Task Description

Under the overall supervision of the Representative and direct supervision of Programme Specialist Adolescent and Youth, the Program Analyst A&Y contributes to the effective implementation of UNFPA activities in Adolescent and Youth including, addressing harmful practices including child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation, youth participation and AYSRH. Specific tasks include; - To ensure documentation of A&Y as well as organise youth events and support technical writing. - Support generation of knowledge about current and A&Y issues, by analyzing programmes, projects, strategies, approaches and ongoing experience for lessons learned, best practices, and shares with management for use in knowledge sharing and planning future strategies. - As part of the Gender and Youth team, the UNV will participate in initiatives for the unit and support A&Y mainstreaming across other units and support compilation of analytical reports in relation to A&Y. - Participate and contribute to innovative ideas for scaling up of AYSRH prevention and service delivery programmes - Participate in key meetings regarding development of National Action Plan for YPS in Uganda. Ensuring tracking of key actions. - Prepare documents required for AYSRH youth engagements, such as concept notes and reports for youth engagements. - Support the Social accountability and youth structure engagement.

Skills and experience
- We are specifically looking for someone with a deep-seated interest and expertise in Adolescent and Youth development, Gender equality, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). - At least 3 years of professional experience managing projects within the public sector or CSOs or UN. - Passionate and committed to human rights and a proven track record of implementing AYSRH initiatives that empower young people. - At least 3 years of experience working closely with Government Ministries—such as Health, Education, Gender, and Social Development—as well as Local Government partners. - Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels. - Ability to write for multiple audiences and types of publications, such as news updates for the public or technical briefs for experts. - Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet and familiarity with office technology equipment - A strategic thinker who is organized and self-motivated, capable of managing project plans and meeting tight deadlines with minimal supervision. - A good and versatile communicator comfortable with drafting technical briefs, reporting and human-interest stories. - Should be driven by a desire to contribute to the UNFPA mandate and have a foundational understanding of how the UN system works to create change. - Experience in implementing AYSRH and working with youth.

Living conditions and remarks
Duty station will be in Kampala with occasion travel in UNFPA focus districts which includes refugee hosting districts.
