Over the past decades, biodiversity financing tools and solutions have demonstrated their importance for achieving biodiversity and broader sustainability UNDP is the lead knowledge organization for sustainable development in the United Nations system, catalyzing collective action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP's policy work at headquarters, regional and country office levels provide a range of in-depth local knowledge, global perspectives and advocacy. Over the past decades, biodiversity financing tools and sustainable finance solutions have demonstrated their importance for closing the biodiversity financing gap and broader sustainability. Biodiversity financing plans are increasingly recognized as a relevant tool to help countries identify and close the biodiversity financing gap, notably through the work of the Biodiversity Finance Initiative www.biofin.org.

Task Description

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Nature, Climate and Resilience Portfolio Lead, or his designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer will support the BIOFIN Country Team with the following tasks: 1. Organization of programme administration activities and tasks: - Arrange, coordinate and manage the bookings of programme meetings, conferences and workshops. - Coordinate, travel and catering arrangements. - Development of meetings agendas and programmes. - Prepare meeting and workshop documents. - Taking notes and preparing minutes of meetings and workshop proceedings and assisting in the timely follow-up of agreed actions. - Arrange project site visits for monitoring and evaluation purposes. - Take into account ad hoc activities as and when required. 2. Maintaining records of the programme budget and expenditure: - Procurement of project requirements, processing invoices, keeping systematic track of all invoices/receipts received and payments made according to UNDP rules and regulations. - Ensure responsible parties adhere to the same rules and regulations. - Assist the Portfolio Lead with quarterly financial and narrative reports. - Ensuring that all payments made are considered eligible by the UNDP. - Creation of payment requisitions and register project expenditures. - Regular update of project activities and progress on UN QUANTUM system. 3. Communication and Reporting - Collecting, editing, summarizing and presenting project related information for the development and distribution and broadcasting of communication and awareness material through different media and social media platforms. - Updating project related website/webpages and delegating website tasks to and communication department as deemed appropriate - Keeping track of information dissemination activities of other project partners and related projects - Maintain and update project related social media platforms. - Coordinate and monitor the quality of implementation of the communication strategies of the project partners and ensure it relates and link to the Project Communication Strategy.

- Budgeting, Finance, Data Collection; Data analysis; Data storytelling and communications; Collective Intelligence Design, - Experience in working with international and national experts and institutions, - Knowledge of the main software packages (MS Office), - Good reports and policy drafting and writing skills; of policies relating to the environment and communication skills - Ability to prepare publications, reports and presentations, - Ability to work with a multidisciplinary and multicultural team, - Exposure to environmental issues or biodiversity is desirable, - Previous experience in expenditure reviews would be an asset, - Familiarity with government processes is highly desirable, - Previous experience in expenditure reviews would be an asset.

Living conditions and remarks
Bigger cities in South Africa can be highly cosmopolitan. In Johannesburg and Pretoria, you will find an abundance of world class gyms, restaurants, bars, recreational classes, galleries, parks etc. The bigger shopping malls host a large selection of international brands. There is a plethora of international cuisine to be sampled, and quirky independent cinemas to be discovered. OR Tambo International Airport is a world class airport, offering highly sophisticated facilities. It is located just outside of Johannesburg, in Kempton Park. It has many international airlines that fly into this airport. Crime rates in South Africa are ranked on the high end, petty theft and opportunistic crimes are common, and armed robberies, smash & grabs and hijackings are also fairly frequent in certain areas. One needs to remain vigilant especially at night and at road intersections. There are usually sign posts that indicate such hot spots. Periodic security information updates are sent via email providing information at national level, with regards to circumstances such as incidents of civil unrest, transport security, computer and networking safety and trends in criminality. UNDSS sends weekly security updates via email. Updates from wardens are on an ad hoc basis, following security related events in your residential area. Updates from UNDSS are provided weekly. UN Volunteers receives the below entitlements: - A Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA): R33 348,22 per month, - A once off entry lumpsum of $350 at the start of the assignment, - Medical insurance; Life cover, and annual leave, - Access to all learning platforms, - A once off exit lumpsum at the end of the assignment.
