Mission and objectives
Founded in 1943 amidst the tragedy of World War II, the Italian National Association for Civilian Victims of War (ANVCG) stands as a national voice for civilian victims of armed conflict. With over 120,000 members, ANVCG has been a tireless advocate for their rights—ensuring access to pensions, healthcare, and social support.
Today, ANVCG’s mission goes beyond assistance: it is committed to promoting a culture of peace rooted in remembrance, solidarity, and education. By preserving the memory of wartime suffering and raising awareness of the civilian cost of conflict, ANVCG strives to inspire future generations and prevent new violence.
Through partnerships with public institutions and international organizations, ANVCG fosters peacebuilding, reconciliation, and cross-border cooperation. Its newly established L'Osserrvatorio - Research Centre for Peace and Civilian Memory deepens this mission by analyzing the long-term social and economic impacts of war on civilian life and advocating for global recognition of their experiences.
Vision: A world where civilian lives are protected, remembered, and respected—where peace is not just a goal, but a shared responsibility.
Context
L'Osservatorio aims to raise awareness among an international audience, particularly students and academia, on the issues of humanitarian disarmament and the protection of civilians in conflict, with special interest in the connection between Disarmament and SDG 16.
