What the volunteer will do
Mission and objectives
UN Women Uzbekistan is working to advance Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in the country.
Context
UN Women works to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women in Uzbekistan, with a current focus on women’s economic empowerment and governance. As the office, opened in Tashkent in May 2025, continues to strengthen its communications function and prepare the launch of its first social media channel, the Online Volunteer will support media monitoring, development of approved social media content, and mapping of relevant bloggers and content creators.
This contribution will help establish a baseline of national media coverage, strengthen partnerships with digital influencers, and support sustained public awareness campaigns, including the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from 25 November to 10 December. These activities will strengthen the office’s advocacy and communications work and contribute to progress towards SDG 5 on gender equality.
Task description
UN Women Uzbekistan seeks one Online Volunteer who, under the guidance of the National Communications Consultant, will support the office's digital communications and media monitoring during this 12-week assignment.
The assignment will focus on maintaining regular media monitoring, contributing to the preparation of social media content for the office’s communications channels, and supporting content production and media monitoring for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, taking place from 25 November to 10 December 2026.
The Online Volunteer will:
- Monitor approximately 10–15 Uzbek and Russian-language news outlets, Telegram channels and social media accounts once a week using an agreed keyword list.
- Support the preparation of media coverage reports following selected major events by verifying links and presenting findings in the office’s standard table format.
Deliverable: A weekly media monitoring log maintained throughout the assignment period, together with media coverage reports for selected relevant events held during the assignment.
- Participate in periodic content planning sessions and contribute ideas and suggested formats for upcoming social media posts.
- Draft approximately 1 - 2 social media captions per week in English and Russian, including adaptations of approved web and programme content.
- Draft approximately 1 - 2 simple visual assets in Canva using templates and branding guidance provided by UN Women, such as data cards, quote cards and story layouts.
Deliverable: A package of approximately 1 - 2 draft social media posts, each consisting of a visual asset and accompanying captions in English and Russian. Final versions will be edited and cleared by the National Communications Consultant before publication.
- Contribute ideas and propose appropriate digital content formats during 16 Days of Activism Campaign planning.
- Support the preparation of selected campaign visuals in Canva using materials and templates provided by UN Women.
Deliverable: Support drafting campaign content package agreed upon during the planning stage, together with an end-of-campaign media coverage report.
All outputs produced under the assignment will be drafts and will be reviewed, edited and cleared by the National Communications Consultant.
