Mission and Objectives

The United Nations has partnered with the Royal Thai Government and people of Thailand for nearly 80 years to advance inclusive and sustainable development aligned with national priorities. The UN Country Team (UNCT), led by the Resident Coordinator and supported by the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO), brings together 21 UN agencies working with government, line ministries, provincial authorities, the private sector, academia, media, civil society, and communities. To strengthen visibility and public engagement, the RCO will engage an International UN University Volunteer to support strategic communications and advocacy work across website and social media management, human interest storytelling, multimedia production, collaboration with media and outreach partners, and supporting public events.

Context

The Volunteer will support the the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in implementing strategic communications and advocacy priorities that advance the UN’s mandate in Thailand. Under the supervision of the RCO Head of Office, in daily coordination with the RCO Communications Officer, the role will focus on executing campaigns, strengthening stakeholder and media engagement, and supporting visibility partnerships, while working closely with the RCO team across communications and multimedia functions.

Task Description

Under the direct supervision of RCO Head of Office, in daily coordination with the RCO Communications Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks : 1) Communications and Multimedia Content Production - Support the planning of communications and advocacy initiatives aligned with UN Thailand priorities. - Contribute strategic communications content ideas across formats, including human interest stories, press materials, social media messaging, and multimedia products (graphics, video, infographics, reels, photo essays), translating development work into clear, accessible narratives, including through AI-enabled tools. - Support in drafting weekly content plans linked to the UN Resident Coordinator’s key advocacy moments, field visits, and public engagements. 2) UN Thailand Digital Platforms Management - Support the management of the UN Thailand digital platforms, website and social media channels, including uploading and publishing high-quality content and liaising with relevant UN agencies. - Learn about Monitor and analyse digital performance monitoring and analysis to, contributing to monthly reporting and identifying opportunities to strengthen reach, engagement, and visibility. 3) UN Thailand Events and Coordination - Support coordination with partners to strengthen UN visibility and outreach in Thailand. - Contribute to the UN Communications Group planning, identifying opportunities to enhance joint storytelling and collective UN visibility across agencies. - Support planning and execution of high-visibility RCO and UNCT events, report launches, briefings with diplomatic missions, and key advocacy moments, assisting with multimedia material production, documentation, and real-time digital coverage to maximize stakeholder engagement and public reach. 4) Other Support - Support other related tasks as assigned by the RCO team.

Living conditions and remarks
Bangkok allowed basic living needs, including accommodation, banking facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are readily available. All staple foods can be found in the markets, e.g.: rice, meat, vegetables, fruit, cooking oil, salt, etc. Bangkok has different public transportation options, including the BTS Skytrain and MRT Underground, metered taxis, mobile-based ride-hailing services (Grab, All Thai Taxi, etc.), tuk tuks, motorbike taxis, buses and boats. Mobile phone is the most dependable tool to be in-touch with colleagues and friends. Internet service is readily available and affordable at most apartment complexes.
