What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

UN Women is the United Nations agency for women’s rights, gender equality, and the empowerment of women and girls. Guided by the Memorandum of Understanding between the EU and UN Women, the UN Women Brussels Liaison Office supports strategic partnerships, policy dialogue, advocacy and resource mobilization with EU institutions.

Context

The UN Women Brussels Liaison Office is seeking one Online Volunteer to support its communications and visibility activities, with a particular focus on advocacy events and LinkedIn communications. Working under the guidance of the Communications Focal Point, the Online Volunteer will support the preparation of communication materials, contribute to the promotion of events and campaigns, and assist in strengthening the Office's digital engagement and outreach. This assignment offers an opportunity to gain practical experience in communications and advocacy within a United Nations entity while contributing to UN Women's work to advance gender equality and women's empowerment.

Task description

The Online Volunteer will support the UN Women Brussels Liaison Office with the following tasks: - Support the drafting and preparation of 12-24 LinkedIn posts promoting UN Women initiatives, partnerships, publications and advocacy events; - Support the development and maintenance of 1 LinkedIn content calendar aligned with key international days, campaigns and Office priorities; - Assist with creating digital communication materials, including social media graphics, flyers, event banners and invitations, in line with UN Women branding guidelines; - Support communication activities related to advocacy events, including preparations for the International African Women’s Day (31 July). - Assist with preparing online event registration materials, including registration forms, QR codes and participant communication materials; - Support monitoring of LinkedIn performance by compiling basic analytics on post reach, engagement and audience growth; - Research good practices and communication trends on LinkedIn and identify practical opportunities to increase the visibility and engagement of the UN Women Brussels LinkedIn page. All communication materials will be prepared under the guidance of the Communications Focal Point and reviewed prior to publication. The Online Volunteer may be invited to participate in occasional virtual meetings with the UN Women Brussels Liaison Office team to discuss progress, receive guidance and coordinate activities. These meetings will take place during Central European Time (CET) working hours (09.00–17.30). Expected outputs: - 1 LinkedIn content calendar for the duration of the assignment; - 12-24 LinkedIn posts prepared for publication; - 5 - 10 digital communication materials supporting advocacy campaigns and events; - 1-2 communication materials for the International Day of African Women event; - 1 monthly progress update per month highlighting achievements, challenges and recommendations; - 1 LinkedIn performance summary per month, including 3 - 5 practical recommendations to improve audience engagement and visibility;

Skills and experience

Required experience: - University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, International Relations or a related field is desirable. - Previous experience in communications, public information, digital communications or social media management. - Experience creating communication materials for digital platforms. - Proficiency in Canva, Adobe Express or similar graphic design tools. - Experience managing professional LinkedIn accounts is an asset. - Understanding of content planning and social media analytics. - Excellent written English and editing skills; - Knowledge of French would be considered an asset; - Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.
