Mission and objectives
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UN Human Rights) is the leading UN entity on human rights. We represent the world's commitment to the promotion and protection of the full range of human rights and freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Context
The Rights of Older Persons Unit at OHCHR is dedicated to advancing and protecting the human rights of older persons, promoting their dignity, and addressing issues such as discrimination, neglect, and violence. As part of this mandate, the Unit works to raise awareness of the unique challenges faced by older persons and to strengthen public understanding and advocacy through strategic communications and digital outreach.
To support these efforts, the Unit is seeking an Online Volunteer with strong graphic design skills and experience creating engaging digital content. The efforts of the Online Volunteers will directly contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
Task description
The Rights of Older Persons Unit at OHCHR is looking for twoOnline Volunteers to support in the production of content and raising awareness on the rights of older persons.
Key responsibilities will include:
Multimedia Content Production Volunteer
- Develop 8–10 engaging visual and audiovisual social media assets to promote the rights of older persons.
- Design a branded template set to be used across social media content.
- Support the visual design and layout of 1–2 newsletter issues, ensuring consistency with OHCHR branding and accessibility standards.
Social Media and Awareness Campaigns Volunteer
- Support the team in strengthening and maintaining its social media presence by drafting platform-ready content and contributing to the planning and implementation of awareness-raising campaigns on the rights of older persons.
- Develop approximately 2–3 platform-ready social media posts per week (around 24–36 posts over the assignment period), as well as additional campaign-specific content for key observances, such as the International Day of Older Persons.
- Approximately half of the posts will be developed using the branded templates, with new copy and visuals adapted for each post, while the remaining posts may require original creative design.
The two Online Volunteers will work together closely to ensure visual consistency across all outputs.

Skills and experience
- Proficiency in Canva or a similar graphic design tool.
- Strong visual design skills and creativity, with the ability to produce engaging multimedia content.
- Experience developing content tailored to social media platforms, particularly LinkedIn and Instagram.
- Experience creating short-form animations or videos for social media is highly desirable.
- Understanding of human rights, advocacy, or related social issues.
- Ability to contribute to advocacy and awareness-raising initiatives through effective visual communications.
