Mission and Objectives

UNDP’s Global Programme on Nature for Development brings together three different initiatives under one program – the Equator Initiative, the National Biodiversity Initiative, and the Global Forest Initiative – in order to identify, foster, showcase and celebrate nature-based solutions that help achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at local, national and international levels. The work of the Global Programme on Nature for Development contributes to UNDP’s Strategic Plan 2014-2017 by charting sustainable development pathways through the conservation, restoration and sustainable management of biodiversity and ecosystems; and by promoting inclusive and effective democratic governance in the area of natural resources.

Context

The National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plan (NBSAP) Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative to support accelerated NBSAP implementation and strengthen countries’ ambition and action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss and put nature on a path to recovery for the benefit of people and the planet by 2030. The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership's MatchMaking Mechanism is designed to quickly connect member countries with the technical and financial support needed to accelerate NBSAP implementation. It connects country-identified requests for technical and financial support with institutional, non-state actor, and country member services, efficiently matching needs with solutions. By centralising requests, increasing transparency, and providing an algorithmic matching digital platform, countries accelerate action towards a nature-positive future.is launching at CBD COP16 and will quickly need to plan for scale under Phase. The upcoming Phase 2 will enhance the platform’s capabilities and user experience.
