Mission and objectives

The United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) manages and implements the United Nations programme on the peaceful uses of outer space and supports UNOV/UNODC with various operational services. As part of the United Nations Office at Vienna, the Information Technology Service (ITS) through its India Technology Hub (ITH) forms part of the ITS's vital delivery pillars in keeping with the UN's revised ICT strategy and is responsible for Information Technology Support, focusing on innovative, sustainable, affordable and robust digital solutions, cybersecurity measures and trainings to meet UNOV/UNODC requirements, also enabling availability of the solutions more generally across the UN Secretariat entities and beyond.

Context

This assignment supports the development of user-centred digital learning solutions at the India Technology Hub (ITH), UNOV. As ITH expands its portfolio of Learning Management System (LMS)-based platforms and other digital training applications, high-quality user interface and graphic design are essential to creating accessible, engaging, and intuitive learning experiences for users across the United Nations system. The Online Volunteers will contribute to the design and enhancement of LMS modules and digital applications by developing user-friendly interfaces and visual assets that support learning and knowledge sharing. Working collaboratively with developers and instructional designers, they will help improve the usability, accessibility, and visual consistency of these digital solutions, contributing to more effective and inclusive training resources. This assignment contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 by supporting innovation and the development of modern digital infrastructure through human-centred design.

Task description

The Online Volunteers will work under the supervision of the Head – India Technology Hub and will be responsible for the following tasks: One Online Volunteer will support with UI/UX Design: - Design user-friendly interfaces for 4 LMS modules and other digital applications, prioritizing accessibility and usability. - Work on wireframes, mock-ups, and prototypes to ensure visual consistency and user engagement. One Online Volunteer will support with Graphics and Visual Content Creation: - Develop 2-5 visual assets, including icons, banners, and layouts, to support educational content. - Maintain brand consistency across all design elements used within digital applications. Both Online Volunteers will: - Collaborate with developers and instructional designers to ensure designs align with technical and educational goals. - Conduct user testing to gather feedback and refine designs based on insights from end-users. - May be asked to join virtual coordination meetings for this assignment.

Area(s) of specialization Graphic design, UI/UX, or related field Required Experience - Basic understanding in design tools like Adobe photoshop, illustrator, aftereffect, or Figma. - Basic knowledge of Graphic Design, UI/UX Design and Digital Content Development - Ability to collaborate effectively in a remote team environment and incorporate feedback into design iterations.
