What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

The UNDP Climate Hub is the arrowhead of UNDP’s commitment to the “Climate Promise” that aims to support programming countries designing and implementing pledges un-der the Paris Agreement, including ambitious National Determined Contributions, with climate change mitigation and adaptation interventions fully embedded in the national de-velopment planning and budgetary processes. The UNDP Climate Hub is responsible for: · Thought leadership on Climate and to be the custodian of UNDP policy positions on Climate; · Strategy and vision formulation; · Pipeline development in coordination with the other hubs and the Vertical Fund Programme Support, Oversight and Compliance Unit; · Provision of integrated policy and programme support to Country Offices; · Global engagement, advocacy in collaboration with BERA; · Integration across thematic areas; · Strategic Partnerships development and resource mobilization; · Lead and Support global flagship initiatives and partnerships on Climate; · Serve as focal point with relevant UN coordination mechanisms and Conventions (UN Framework Convention on Climate Change); · Cross-organization knowledge and learning; and · Innovation.

Context

The Climate Promise website (http://climatepromise.undp.org) is home to communications content produced by UNDP Climate Hub relating to climate change and climate action. The website includes blogs, photo stories, news releases as well as other specialized content such as country pages which summarize the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of countries. We aspire to have as much of Climate Promise content in French as possible. To support the delivery of these sessions, we are seeking 1 dedicated Online Volunteer to assist in editing and proofreading the Climate Promise website content from English to French.

Task description

The Online Volunteer will support the team in editing and proofreading the Climate Promise website content from English to French. to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency in language, style, and formatting. The Online Volunteer will work collaboratively, coordinating closely to maintain a uniform tone and structure across all documents. Specific tasks include: · Edit and proofread their assigned reports for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and overall language quality. · Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and formatting across all reports. · Check for clarity, coherence, and logical flow of content, making suggestions for improvement where necessary. · Verify that references, footnotes, and annexures are correctly formatted. · Coordinate regularly with each other to align on editing standards and resolve any discrepancies. · Liaise on a regular basis with the UNDP Climate Hub team, and with interested Country Offices, where needed, to clarify content, incorporate feedback, and address any questions. · Ensure that the final versions are ready for publication, adhering to UNDP guidelines (to be provided).

Skills and experience

· Strong understanding of climate change and climate action · Prior experience translating development, humanitarian, environmental or climate-related content. · Ability to deliver quality translations under tight deadlines. · Familiarity with UNDP editorial and publication standards, including terminology, structure, and formatting requirements is desirable. · Strong attention to detail, stylistic consistency, and adherence to institutional branding and communication guidelines. · Ability to work with large documents (over ?? pages) and ensure coherence and quality across bilingual/trilingual versions.
