UNITAR Division of Prosperity offers world-class learning and knowledge sharing services to present and future change-makers from developing countries, particularly youth and women, that are designed to shape an inclusive, sustainable and prosperous world.We train developing countries, particularly those facing socio-economic challenges including LDCs, LLCDs, SIDs and conflict/post conflict countries, and marginalized communities, including women and youth, with the skills for sustainable prosperity.Our programmes strive to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs, prioritizing the agenda’s goal to reach the furthest behind first to ensure no one is left behind. We offer evidenced-based learning services using cutting edge methodologies and technologies adaptable to the needs of the regions and individuals we serve.With our headquarters in Hiroshima, peacebuilding is central to our work.

Context

The UNITAR Division for Prosperity is launching a new online training programme in Sudan to equip women and internally displaced persons with the skills, tools, and confidence to build sustainable businesses and projects that strengthen food security and create dignified livelihoods. The programme will strengthen participants’ capacity to build resilient agribusinesses and manage green businesses within food systems. Furthermore, the programme will enhance economic participation and employability through business and leadership training.

Task description

The UNITAR Division for Prosperity seeks four Online Volunteers to translate webinar materials on entrepreneurship and financial literacy from English to Arabic and provide live interpretation during webinars. Volunteers will deliver real-time simultaneous interpretation in live virtual sessions, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. Responsibilities include reviewing presentation materials provided in advance to prepare for sessions. To this end, the Online Volunteers are asked: -Support approximately 6–8 virtual webinars on entrepreneurship and financial literacy, each lasting around 90 minutes. - Provide real-time simultaneous interpretation from English to Arabic during the live webinars. The two selected volunteers will work collaboratively and alternate interpretation duties throughout each session. - Log in to the webinars in advance to virtually set up and prepare interpretation channels. - Review webinar presentations provided in advance and translate approximately 15–20 slides per webinar from English to Arabic - Ensure the translated materials are accurate and in line with UNITAR communication guidelines. - Volunteers may be asked to participate in a virtual orientation meeting. Selected volunteers will receive webinar materials in advance, along with guidance on the target audience and communication guidelines. Candidates should have proven experience in simultaneous interpretation, native or near-native Arabic proficiency, strong English skills, and a reliable internet connection. Familiarity with development or humanitarian terminology is desirable. The Online Volunteers will have the opportunity to build connections with the RISE LAB team at UNITAR Division for Prosperity and learn about how the translated product contributes to women and youth empowerment in Sudan through entrepreneurship training.
