Thirteen years after the end of the armed conflict, Sri Lanka has not returned to active conflict and has remained a largely peaceful country. However, stresses on peace and social cohesion remain, including new fault lines, exacerbated by the Easter Bombings of 2019, the current economic crisis and the legacy of the armed conflict which are not yet fully addressed. While a return to armed conflict is not viewed as a near-term risk, Sustaining Peace requires continuous engagement in addressing existing challenges, improving governance and social cohesion, as well as the robust monitoring of emerging risks. There has been a growing recognition of the need to systematically mainstream conflict sensitive approaches into all programme activities in the country. In this context, the UN in Sri Lanka has in recent years continued to invest in a wide portfolio of peacebuilding priorities, including those supported by the UN Peace Building Fund. Among the peacebuilding priorities has been developing a deep contextual analysis of emerging risks such as climate security and land use, organized crime, and the impact of online hate speech that would support the Secretary General’s global agenda on Prevention. Looking ahead, the main instruments to advance these priorities will be the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027 and the UN SDG Multi Partner Trust Fund. Through increased coordination around these two mechanisms, the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) is expected to significantly increase integrated approaches and joint programming in support of Sustaining Peace and more broadly, SDG 16

The UN Sri Lanka SDG Multi-Partner Trust Fund (hereinafter referred to as the Sri Lanka SDG Fund OR Fund) was established in mid-2020 to support the 2030 Agenda and accelerate progress towards achieving the SDGs. It directly contributes to the broader goals agreed with the Government as part of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). The new Cooperation Framework is the first country-wide planning document based on the 2019 UN Development System Reform, which introduced a new generation of more accountable and cohesive United Nations Country teams and a reinvigorated Resident Coordinator system with an independent and empowered Resident Coordinator. Since the new Cooperation Framework, the Fund’s programming priorities are under regular review to ensure they remain highly relevant to the country’s evolving priorities and context, as mandated in global agreements setting up multi-partner trust funds. The Fund includes two windows: peacebuilding and resilience, with priorities fully aligned with the SDGs and UNSDCF, to reduce inequalities and leave no one behind, by: 1. Sustaining peace to reduce the risk of conflict relapsing or resurfacing. These measures include strengthening national capacities at all levels for conflict management and laying the foundation for sustainable peace and development. 2. Enhancing resilience including accelerating Sri Lanka’s digital transformation. The Sri Lanka SDG Fund is hosted by the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Further information about the Sri Lanka SDG Fund can be accessed at the following link: https://mptf.undp.org/fund/lkp00 The Secretariat of the Sri Lanka SDG Fund is responsible for preparing the Fund’s Annual Narrative Progress Report (hereinafter referred to as the Annual Report). The Annual Report presents the key results achieved through projects implemented under the Fund’s two thematic windows and highlights their contribution and impact towards sustainable development outcomes in Sri Lanka. In addition, the Fund Secretariat is responsible for undertaking visibility and communication activities at the Fund level to showcase results, promote transparency and accountability, and strengthen engagement with stakeholders and partners.

Under the overall guidance of the Sustainable Development Fund Manager, and under the direct supervision of, and in close consultation with, the Peacebuilding Window Coordinator and the Resilience Window Coordinator, this UN Volunteer will be responsible for the design, layout, and production of the following: - Fund’s Annual Report 2025 o Propose at least three innovative design concepts for the Annual Report, from which the Fund Secretariat will select the preferred option. o Develop layouts, graphics, text and visuals design of the report in line with the selected concept and applicable United Nations and Sri Lanka SDG Fund’s branding and communication guidelines. o Integrate and appropriately position visual elements such as maps, infographics, charts, tables, and call-out boxes in consultation with the Fund Secretariat. o Incorporate feedback provided by the Fund Secretariat and revise the design accordingly. o Where relevant, work with the relevant window coordinators to reach out to communications colleagues of the RCO and UN agencies to source/develop material o Adapt the final design to formats suitable for both digital dissemination and print production - Visibility material o One pager on M-GA Joint Programme o One pager on the One Registry Programme o One pager on Social Dialogue o One pager of Early Warning programming o One pager of Resettlement and Reintegration o One pager on Joint Programmes - Compliance o Ensure adherence to UN branding guidelines, ensuring reports and visibility material are accessible, engaging, and appropriate for a diverse audience. o Incorporate revisions based on feedback from the Fund Secretariat. o The final products will be shared with a wide audience, including partners, counterparts, and the public, both in digital and print formats
