Mission and Objectives

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM is part of the United Nations system, as a related organization. IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. The organization works in emergency situations, developing the resilience of all people on the move, and particularly those in situations of vulnerability, as well as building capacity within governments to manage all forms and impacts of mobility. The Organization is guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including upholding human rights for all. Respect for the rights, dignity and well-being of migrants remains paramount.

Context

Under the overall supervision of Senior Resource Management Officer Ankara, Türkiye, and direct supervision of the National ICT Officer, and in collaboration with relevant units at Headquarters and the Administrative Centres, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for supporting the coordination of ICT functions in the office.

Task Description

The UN Volunteer will: - Provide onsite end-user support to International Organization for Migration (IOM ) staff. - Assist in monitoring and administration of Local Area Network (LAN), Internet connectivity, and equipment. - Support maintenance of current and upcoming Information and Telecommunication (ITC) equipment. - Implement configuration of desktops and laptops for IT services such as Internet, access to network resources, email, and others. - Install, configure, and upgrade hardware and software for desktops and laptops (Windows, MS Office, Antivirus, and in-house produced software). - Detect, remove, and prevent viruses on all systems. - Support management of the overall tracking system for the ITC equipment inventory. - Provide technical support and assistance to end users of mission-critical applications such as MiMOSA and Wave. - Assist in implementation and management of a centralized data backup system. - Provide ITC training to end users when necessary to ensure productive use of existing and new applications and systems. - Regularly report needs and progress on ITC issues within their area of responsibility. - Perform any other duties as assigned. - Prepare periodic reports on IT equipment for the Istanbul mission. - Support the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC ) in Istanbul. - Support and manage the attendance system for all Istanbul locations. - Manage SharePoint (SP ) and Microsoft Azure backup folders. - Provide brief IT training to internal customers after resolving issues. - Set up devices (projector, printer, etc.) for conferences or selection missions outside the office in Istanbul.

Skills and experience
- Secondary education in computer science or a combination of relevant educational and professional experience. - A minimum of 2 years of experience in a networking environment (Local Area Network/Wide Area Network - LAN/WAN) is desirable. - Experience in Microsoft SharePoint and Azure software in a multi-site environment, TCP/IP, MS Office, antivirus software, backup server software, and IT utilities. - Experience in Microsoft SQL database administration will be an advantage. - Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technical challenges with hands-on experience. - Knowledge of Freshservice Ticketing System is an asset.

The UN Volunteer will be based in Istanbul, and responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials. The IOM Istanbul office is in Gayrettepe. Summary of this national UN Volunteer Entitlements: - Current Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) is USD 1,614 (Paid in Turkish Lira) - Private insurance by CIGNA As per UN’s diplomatic mission status, it is not included in National Security Institution’s (SGK) system but can be only initiated on private basis.
