Mission and Objectives

The UNRCO acts as the lead convener of the UN Country Team (UNCT) and coordinates collective work across UN agencies, funds and programmes in Jordan. Under the supervision of the Head of Office, the IM Specialist will work closely with the RCO team, UN agencies, government counterparts, development partners and other stakeholders. The role includes responsibility for supporting interagency coordination, collaboration with development partners, monitoring progress against the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) , and maintaining information systems required for effective coordination. Expected as the key “data focal point” for the UN system in Jordan, the IM Specialist ensures that relevant development, and socio-economic data on UNCT’s and development partners’ priorities is collected, analysed, stored, updated and disseminated.

Context

The position is established to support the UN system in Jordan, under the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator (UNRCO). The Information Management (IM) Specialist will support the functioning of the Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO), and provide technical expertise in the design, development and implementation of information management systems to support UN and development partners’ coordination in Jordan. Among key responsibilities are to: collect and analyze data to inform decision-making and planning processes; develop and maintain databases; produce maps and data visualizations; support reporting and dissemination of UN Country Team (UNCT) and development partners’ information; and provide guidance to the RCO on information management best practices. Task Description

Under the Direct Supervision of the UNRCO Head of Office, the UN Volunteer will: - Map development cooperation activities implemented by UN entities, bilateral and multilateral partners in Jordan and present the information in accessible and decision oriented formats - Maintain databases and data collection tools to support development coordination and analysis - Ensure data quality, consistency and comparability across information products - Conduct data analysis to support strategic planning and reporting - Support analytical processes and coordination of related analytical products - Support the development of the new UN Country Analysis, including the use of AI tools and data analysis. - Produce information products such as dashboards, infographics, maps, reports and presentations - Maintain shared information platforms and ensure accessibility of information to partners - Support coordination with information management focal points across the UN system and development partners - Contribute to strengthening national and partner capacity in information management and data use - Perform any other related duties as required by the office.

Skills and experience
At least 7 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level; experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset; - Experience with data visualization tools like Power BI and data collection tools is mandatory. - Experience using Adobe Creative tools is desirable. - Experience using QGIS is desirable. - Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; - Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; - Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; - Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; - Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; - Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines; - Sound security awareness; - Have affinity with or interest in Development volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.

Living conditions and remarks
Amman, the capital, is a peaceful city with over four million residents. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily available. Though Arabic is the official language, English is widely spoken among the majority of the population, especially in Amman. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in Amman is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas. A large variety of accommodation options can be found; however, it is worth noting that prices in Amman have generally increased in the past few years. There are no specific security threats. Amman is a very easy city in which to live; large, many amenities, very modern and serviced by an international airport with direct flights to most capital cities. According to the assessment of the UN Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS) Jordan is a family duty station (category A hardship). As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the insurance plan.
