Mission and Objectives

UNDP Rome Centre for Climate Action and Energy Transition (‘UNDP Rome Centre’ for short), acts as the principal, integrated global platform for the strategic partnership between the Government of Italy (through the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security – IMEES or Ministero dell'Ambiente e della Sicurezza Energetica - MASE in Italian) and UNDP for delivering on two critical policy areas: Youth and Climate, and Climate Finance. 1. Youth and Climate: Emphasise the critical role of youth in climate action, advocating for their meaningful participation in decision-making processes to address the climate crisis and achieve sustainable development. 2. Climate Finance: Identify, finance, and implement country-level actions to reduce the energy access gap and boost the energy transition, while supporting projects in developing economies to decarbonise and enhance climate resilience.

Context

Youth4Climate is a global initiative co-led by the Government of Italy and UNDP to boost youth-led and youth-inclusive climate action on the ground, by identifying and strengthening concrete and innovative youth-led solutions and ideas. We support the implementation of youth-led and youth-inclusive climate solutions, both financially and in-kind, for a more sustained climate impact on the ground. Y4C Call for Solutions is an innovation challenge that focuses on developing innovative projects through direct funding and technical support for youth-led projects to generate and implement innovative approaches to drive climate action. In addition to our Call for Solutions, Y4C has an online platform and a mobile app that functions as a go-to knowledge space for young climate leaders and partners to network and exchange opportunities, experiences, and resources. Youth4Climate Call for Solutions: - Youth4Climate’s annual Call for Solutions, open to youth aged 18-29 in 159 countries, provides direct and flexible seed funding opportunities to youth-led local climate solutions. - Through our 3 Calls, we have awarded 150 projects, across 59 countries, for an envelope of USD 4 Million. - Youth4Climate will be launching its 4th Call for Solutions in 2026, allowing youth and youth-led organizations to submit proposals for funding of up to USD 30,000. - The Call for Solutions will be available in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese) and open in 6 thematic areas (Sustainable Energy, Food and Agriculture, Climate Peace and Security, Architecture for Adaptation, Sustainable Fashion , and Oceans and Blue Economy) Following the call's launch (tentatively on March 1, 2026), Y4C will host a series of dive deep webinars for the broader Y4C community and prospective applicants. These sessions are designed to guide participants in understanding the application process and its guidelines and have a deeper discussion on what the thematic areas of the Call are. The series consists of 3 webinars which will be held from March 3 to March 13, 2026, and recordings will be posted on the Youth4Climate platform and our YouTube channel (@Youth4Climate) as a guide for applicants.
