What the volunteer will do
Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that promotes volunteerism to support peace and development worldwide. Volunteerism can transform the pace and nature of development and it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for volunteerism globally, encouraging partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing volunteers.
In most cultures volunteerism is deeply embedded in long-established, ancient traditions of sharing and support within the communities. In this context, UN Volunteers take part in various forms of volunteerism and play a role in development and peace together with co-workers, host agencies and local communities. In all assignments, UN Volunteers promote volunteerism through their action and conduct. Engaging in volunteer activity can effectively and positively enrich their understanding of local and social realities, as well as create a bridge between themselves and the people in their host community. This will make the time they spend as UN Volunteers even more rewarding and productive.
Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) and Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO) are jointly implementing a social media advocacy campaign to commemorate the International Year of Volunteers (IVY) in Malawi. The campaign, running from June to November 2026, aims to promote volunteerism's role in achieving national development goals in Malawi. It will highlight key themes such as volunteer wellbeing, legal frameworks, and inclusive volunteer management through a series of webinars and targeted social media initiatives. This initiative is aligned with the Global Index of Volunteer Engagement (GIVE) framework and the Global Volunteering Standard.
We are seeking a highly experienced, strategic Lead IVY Advocacy Campaign Coordinator to steer the content planning, webinar development, and overall execution of this high-profile national campaign.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the UNV Malawi field unit, the Lead IVY Advocacy Campaign Coordinator will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Develop and manage a comprehensive content plan and calendar for the entire IVY Malawi campaign, aligning with the activities outlined in the project's Gantt chart.
- Lead the conceptualization, technical set-up, and development of the campaign's webinar series. This includes structuring sessions, coordinating platform logistics, and running technical dry-runs with speakers and facilitators.
- Coordinate the work of support volunteers, including graphic designers and social media advocates, ensuring timely delivery of campaign assets.
- Liaise with webinar leads (UNV and VSO), speakers, and facilitators to synthesize key messages and talking points into compelling content for public dissemination.
- Oversee the creation of briefs for graphic designers to produce standardized templates (presentations, social media cards, quote cards) and promotional materials.
- Ensure all campaign messaging is consistent and aligns with the strategic objectives, the IVY Trello board, and the global standards for volunteerism.
- Monitor campaign progress against the work plan, providing regular updates to the joint UNV/VSO management team.
Expected Outcomes:
- A finalized, comprehensive campaign content calendar covering June to November 2026.
- Successful technical coordination and execution of 8 webinar events, including completed dry-runs and platform management.
- Timely delivery of all required design assets and social media toolkits, achieved through effective coordination of the volunteer design and support teams.
- Consistent, high-quality campaign messaging that demonstrably aligns with the GIVE framework and IVY objectives.
- Regular progress reports submitted to the UNV/VSO management team summarizing campaign milestones and engagement metrics.
