Mission and objectives
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger.
Our goal is to achieve food security for all and make sure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With over 194 member states, FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide. We believe that everyone can play a part in ending hunger.
Join us in creating a #ZeroHunger world.
Context
Türkiye is one of FAO’s most important partners, working to implement programmes across Europe and Central Asia. Today, Turkey and FAO are engaged in close cooperation to achieve the shared goal of eradicating poverty and hunger.
The partnership between FAO and Türkiye has thrived since the creation of the FAO Country Office in 1982; this was followed by the signing of a Host Country Agreement in 2006 and the establishment of the Subregional Office for Central Asia in Ankara in 2007. The operational support of the Government of Turkey enhances FAO’s ability to respond to national needs as well as the regional priorities of countries in the subregion – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
FAO and Türkiye's cooperation continues to prosper through two Partnership Programmes dedicated to food security and sustainable management of natural resources – the FAO-Türkiye Partnership Programme on Food and Agriculture (FTPP) and the FAO-Türkiye Forestry Programme (FTFP), both of which are supported by trust fund contributions of the Government of Türkiye, which total to date USD 30 million.
The two programmes contribute significantly to strengthening the agricultural and forestry capacities of the countries of Central Asia and Caucasus as well as those of other countries, such as in Africa and the Balkans, not only through the provision of funding but also through shared experience and expertise.
Task description
Under the overall supervision of the Regional Gender Officer and the direct coordination of the Young Professional Officer (Communication), the Online Volunteers will:
- Amplify official FAO Headquarters and FAO Central Asia Subregional Office (CASO) social media content related to the International Year of the Woman Farmer through their personal social media platforms (e.g. X/Twitter, LinkedIn, and, where appropriate, Instagram and TikTok).
- Amplify FAO social media content that highlights women farmers’ roles, challenges and contributions across the full CA subregion, including regional, subregional and country-level initiatives led by FAO.
- Ensure that all shared content clearly attributes FAO as the source, respects copyright and branding guidelines, and states that the volunteer is amplifying official FAO messages.
- Share content in a timely manner, aligned with campaign priorities, key international days, and agreed messaging guidance.
- Maintain regular and clear communication with the Regional Gender Officer and the Young Professional Officer (Communication) regarding content shared, scheduling, and any questions related to messaging or compliance.
- Monitor engagement on shared content (e.g. likes, shares, comments, reach where available).
- Submit a brief engagement report every two weeks, including links and/or screenshots of shared content and basic engagement metrics, reflecting engagement with content covering multiple countries and thematic priorities across the CA subregion, where applicable.
