What the volunteer will do
Mission and objectives
UNDP operates in over 170 countries and territories, working to eradicate poverty while protecting the planet. We support countries in developing strong policies, skills, partnerships, and institutions to help sustain their progress.
The Biodiversity Finance Initiative – BIOFIN – was developed to provide a comprehensive methodology for governments to 1) review the existing policy context, 2) measure expenditure levels for biodiversity, 3) calculate future financial needs and 4) design strategic plans to deploy the right mix of finance solutions, tailored to the country context. Biodiversity Finance Plans were designed in 41 countries to date many now having reached the implementation stage.
BIOFIN is supported by the Governments of Germany, France, Flanders, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Canada and the European Union. The initiative is part of UNDP’s Planet Hub, under UNDP’s Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS).
BIOFIN’s first phase (2012-2019) enabled full assessments and initial implementation of finance plan elements in target countries. Based on lessons learned, a new and comprehensive version of the BIOFIN Methodology was developed. Significant scaling up of finance solutions is required in more than 130 countries to address the biodiversity finance challenge. BIOFIN’s second phase (2018 – 2027) focuses mainly on the implementation of prioritised finance solutions while also allowing additional countries to undertake the initial assessments and create the finance plan. See www.biofin.org for further information.
Context
This document outlines the criteria and process for selecting qualified online volunteer to lead Spanish-language course designed for beginner-level learners. The focus will be on facilitating engaging, practical, and interactive sessions that support language acquisition through real-life conversations.
The objectives of the speaking club are:
- To help UNDP staff members develop basic conversational skills in Spanish;
- To promote interaction and active practice through engaging activities;
- To create a supportive and inclusive environment where learners feel comfortable using Spanish in everyday situations.
Selected online volunteer will have the opportunity to connect with international staff serving in Türkiye while contributing to their Spanish language development. The Online Volunteer who successfully completes the assignment will receive a digital certificate of appreciation.
Task description
We are seeking an Online Volunteer to lead and conduct beginner-level Spanish course for UNDP BIOFIN staff members. The target group consists of international UNDP personnel who are fluent in English and have little to no prior knowledge of Spanish.
The Online Volunteer is expected to design highly interactive sessions tailored to beginners. The sessions will take place once a week over a four-week period, starting on 16 March. A kick-off meeting with the Project Analyst, BIOFIN will be held on 13 March.
The Online Volunteer will be responsible for:
- Planning and conducting 45-minute speaking sessions and grammar course once a week for four weeks;
- Facilitating short conversations on topics such as greetings, self-introductions, shopping, and other relevant everyday themes;
- Using role plays, games, and visual materials to enhance engagement and learning;
- Monitoring learners’ progress and adapting sessions to address their needs.
