What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration and is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society. IOM is part of the United Nations system, as a related organization. IOM supports migrants across the world, developing effective responses to the shifting dynamics of migration and, as such, is a key source of advice on migration policy and practice. The organization works in emergency situations, developing the resilience of all people on the move, and particularly those in situations of vulnerability, as well as building capacity within governments to manage all forms and impacts of mobility. The Organization is guided by the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, including upholding human rights for all. Respect for the rights, dignity and well-being of migrants remains paramount.

Context

Building upon ten years of successful cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), Family Assistance Program (FAP) has been contributing to more orderly and timely family reunification (FR) visa processing by the German Visa Sections and facilitating safe and regular migration of vulnerable families to Germany through 10 FAP centres, including the center in Istanbul.

Task description

Under overall supervision of FAP Istanbul National Coordinator and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Associate, the successful candidate will be accountable and responsible for assisting the streamlining of visa application services for the German family reunification caseloads. The assigned tasks may require: - Provide comprehensive support to family reunification operations at the FAP Center by managing beneficiary assistance and case files, including data entry, document processing, and file tracking in line with SOPs. - Conduct applicant interviews, ensure accurate data recording, and maintain high-quality standards in case management and reporting. - Coordinate appointment scheduling, support applicants with form completion and documentation, and respond to inquiries via phone and email. Ensure timely updates in case management systems and proper organization and submission of files to the German Consulate. - Perform any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisors.

Skills and experience

- Experience with client management and outreach in visa application processes or similar administrative settings is required. - Experience in call center and knowledge of CRM is an asset. Skills Required: - Strong demonstrated ability to maintain accuracy & confidentiality in performing responsibilities; - Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, among others), email, and internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; - Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; - Attention to detail, ability to organize paperwork in a methodical way; discreet, details and clients.

This is a volunteer assignment, not employment. The assignment will be based in Istanbul and required 5 days in the office in Gayrettepe, Istanbul. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials.
