What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (UNRCO) supports the UN Resident Coordinator (RC) in their roles to work with UN entities to improve the impact, efficiency and effectiveness of the UN’s operational activities for development at the country level. As designated representative of the UN Secretary-General, the RC in Malawi leads and strategically positions the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in support of national priorities, development strategies, and plans. The UNRCO in Malawi provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various sub-groups (Programme Management Team - PMT, Operations Management Team - OMT and UN Communications Group - UNCG). The support includes strategic planning, programme and operations management, policy guidance, data management and results reporting as well as knowledge management, advocacy and communications – all seeking to enhance UN coherence and improve overall programme impact to better achieve development results.

Context

The UN in Malawi in collaboration with the government has jointly developed the Malawi 2024-2028 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) that represents the UN Development System’s collective support to the achievement of Malawi 2063, its First 10-year Implementation Plan 2021-2030 (MIP-1), the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the African Union Agenda 2063.

Task description

- The United Nations in Malawi is looking for a creative Online UN Volunteer (UNV) with at least two years of experience in editing and graphic design to provide graphic design services. The objective is to ; a. Produce a visually appealing and engaging report of the Partnership and Resource Mobilization Strategy. b. The online volunteer will efficiently employ creativity, functionality, and technology to design and produce an eye-catching and informative Partnership and Resource Mobilization Strategy. c. Collaborate with the Partnership Officer and the Communications Officer to select photos and incorporate tables, indexes, maps, infographics, and graphs. The final document is expected to be between 30 and 40 pages.

Skills and experience

- A bachelor’s degree in communications and/or visual arts. - A Technical degree in combination of two years of additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree. - Relevant professional experience in graphic design is required. - Ability to design full reports and similar documents, create infographics, charts, and tables to be integrated into the designed version, and create a good experience blend of the core reporting narrative, story sidebars and photos.
