Mission and Objectives

UNICEF in Morocco is dedicated to advancing the rights and well-being of children, particularly the most vulnerable. The country programme is focused primarily on education, health and nutrition, social inclusion, and child protection. These priorities are captured in a programme of cooperation that is jointly agreed to by the Government of Morocco and UNICEF and is approved by UNICEF’s executive board. This country programme is derived from national priorities as well as the broader UN Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF).

Context

The health and nutrition programme focuses on ensuring women of reproductive age, newborns, and children in lower resource settings are covered by, and utilize, an integrated package of quality and equitable health and nutrition care and services. This programme aims to improve health and nutrition status of children and women in geographic areas where there are persistent equity gaps with a focus on primary health care specifically during the first 1000 days of life. Programme Associate - Health and Nutrition is to provide programme planning and implementation support for the UNICEF health and nutrition programme, including the KOICA-funded project.

Task Description

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Health and Nutrition Section, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: - Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of UNICEF’s health and nutrition programme; - Support the tracking of activities to make sure they align with approved plans, documenting key achievements and progress when possible; - Support the health and nutrition team to prepare for meetings with government counterparts, regional actors, NGOs, UN agencies, and internal teams as well as compiling outcomes and monitoring actions; - Support the collecting, compiling, and organization of programme data as well as documenting any implementation learning; - Assist with budget monitoring and expenditure tracking; - Help support meetings, workshops, field visits, and trainings; - Help prepare briefings, minutes, presentations; - Support monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) activities; - Support other sections for learning and experience when there is time available.

The Kingdom of Morocco, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. It overlooks the Mediterranean Sea to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and has land borders with Algeria to the east, and Mauritania to the south. It has a population of roughly 37 million, the official and predominant religion is Islam, and the official languages are Arabic and Amazigh; French and the Moroccan dialect of Arabic are also widely spoken. Rabat is the country's seventh-largest city with an urban population of approximately 580,000 (2014) and a metropolitan population of over 1.2 million. It is also the capital city of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra administrative region. Rabat is located on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the river Bou Regreg, opposite Salé, the city's main commuter town. Morocco is considered a safe country. UNDSS rules are applicable for KMCO both at workplace, residence and during travel in the field.
