Mission and objectives
UNICEF works in the world's toughest places to reach the most disadvantaged children and adolescents – and to protect the rights of every child, everywhere.
Context
UNICEF Pacific supports the Government of the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) across key programme areas including Education, Child Protection, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). While UNICEF does not maintain a fixed office presence in Majuro, programme implementation is managed through the UNICEF North Pacific Field Office in the Federated States of Micronesia.
RMI is a geographically dispersed small island developing state consisting of approximately 1,200 islands and atolls, with a population of around 54,600 people . Operational delivery is complex due to remoteness, logistical constraints, and limited infrastructure.
UNICEF is expanding its programme footprint in RMI, with multiple sectoral interventions being implemented through a combination of consultants, government counterparts, and partners. While technical capacity exists across sectors, there is a critical need for dedicated coordination support to ensure alignment, efficiency, and coherence across programmes.
This UNV assignment aims to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination, enhance collaboration among stakeholders, and support effective and timely delivery of programme results for children.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Field Office (North Pacific), the Volunteer will:
- Support overall coordination of UNICEF programmes in RMI across sectors (Education, Child Protection, Health and Nutrition, WASH)

- Track implementation progress and proactively identify bottlenecks and solutions
- Support planning, monitoring, and reporting processes, including annual workplans and donor reporting

- Support strategic alignment of sectoral interventions with UNICEF Country Programme priorities and donor requirements

- Connectivity: Limited internet access, particularly outside main areas
- Transportation: Relies primarily on taxis and limited domestic flights
- Healthcare: Basic facilities, with one hospital and limited private services
- Cost of living: Relatively high due to reliance on imported goods
