Mission and Objectives
Anchored in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and in line with the priorities outlined in the UNDP Strategic Plan, the Regional Bureau for Arab States (RBAS) supports the Arab States region to achieve sustainable development by eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, accelerating structural transformations for sustainable development, and building resilience to crises and shocks.
In addition to its presence in New York, RBAS has its main office in the Regional Hub based in Amman, Jordan with some staff based in Beirut (Lebanon) and Dubai (UAE).
The Amman Regional Hub hosts regional initiatives under the Regional Programme for Arab States 2022-2025 which touches upon the following areas of work: governance and anti-corruption, regional cooperation for the reduction of poverty and inequality, knowledge economy, conflict prevention and peacebuilding, climate security, youth engagement and empowerment, gender equality, resilience building, among others.
Context
This assignment is part of a UNDP-supported project to assist countries in the development and implementation of their National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plans (NBSAPs), in alignment with the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
The NBSAP is a key national policy document that outlines priorities, targets, and actions for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use, while contributing to global biodiversity goals. Ensuring the quality, clarity, and consistency of this document is essential for effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and successful implementation.
The contribution of Online Volunteers will support the final review and quality assurance of the NBSAP by improving the readability, coherence, and consistency of the document prior to its finalization and dissemination. This will help ensure that the strategy is accessible and actionable for a wide range of stakeholders, including government institutions, private sector actors, civil society, and development partners.
Task Description
UNDP seeks 2 Online Volunteers to support the review and quality assurance of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) in Jordan. The volunteers are expected to do the following tasks:
-Review different sections of the NBSAP document for clarity, consistency, and overall quality of language
-Identify and correct grammatical, spelling, and punctuation issues
-Ensure consistency in terminology, tone, and structure across the document
-Verify and standardize acronyms, abbreviations, and technical terms
-Provide suggestions to improve readability and flow of the text
-Support cross-checking of formatting elements (headings, numbering, and references where applicable)
The volunteers are expected to produce the deliverables:
-A structured review of assigned sections using a table format (e.g., in Word or Excel), including:
Original text excerpt, Suggested revision, Comments/explanation (if needed)
-A summary note highlighting key revisions and recommendations
