What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

The mission of WHO in the area of transplantation is to meet the requirement of the fifty-seventh World health Assembly resolution WHA57.18.. Objectives can be summarized as follows: To work with Member states and to provide assistance at their request to ensure effective national oversight of allogeneic and xenogeneic transplantation activities. This would ensure accountability, traceability, and appropriate surveillance of adverse events (in particular transmission of infectious agents of xenogeneic origin); To increase access of citizens to safe and effective transplantation of cell, tissue and organ. Additionally, to ensure ethical and technical practices of the procurement of human material for transplantation to the follow-up of recipients and live donors; To promote international cooperation to encourage the global harmonization of technical and ethical practices in transplantation. This would include the prevention of the exploitation of the disadvantaged through transplant tourism and the sale of human material for transplantation. To encourage donation of human material for transplantation. The "Clinical Procedures" unit in the Department of Essential Health Technologies is responsible for promoting the appropriate effective and safe use of cell, tissue and organ transplantation. This includes the surveillance of risks particularly in xenotransplantation. This department is also responsible for ensuring efficacy, safety and equity in the provision of clinical procedures in surgery, anaesthetics, obstetrics and orthopaedics particularly at the district hospital level.

Context

To strengthen the quality, clarity, and presentation of its annual reporting, the WHO AFRO EPR Cluster is seeking support to consolidate and analyze data from multiple technical areas and translate it into a cohesive and impactful report. The assignment focuses on structuring complex information into a clear narrative, highlighting key results, challenges, and lessons learned, while ensuring consistency with WHO reporting standards. The UN Volunteer will work closely with the Regional Emergency Director (RED), technical teams, and Program Area Managers (PAMs) to collect inputs, integrate feedback, and enhance the overall quality of the report. The final output will not only document achievements but also provide a valuable reference for decision-making, partner engagement, and future strategic planning.

Task description

The incumbent will collect, analyze, and interpret data from different programs in the Emergency Cluster and organize it into a structured report for the Emergency Director and WHO Regional Office Director. The report must be accurate, timely, and tailored to WHO Emergency cluster needs as well provide key information about WHE work in the African Region tour the rest of the world including partners and communities. Under RED’s supervision, the online volunteer will: - Review of 2025 quarterly reports and relevant documents - Collect and consolidate inputs from technical teams and PAMs - Draft and structure the annual report - Highlight key results, impact, challenges, and lessons learned - Support coordination of reviews and integration of feedback - Assist with layout, visuals, and formatting in line with WHO standards Deliverables - Methodological note and outline (Week 1) - Draft report (Week 2) - Revised draft after inputs (Week 3) - Final report ready for publication (Week 4)
