What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

Mission The mission of this assignment is to increase awareness, understanding, and public engagement with youth development policies, institutions, programs, and opportunities across Africa through research, education, and digital content creation. The volunteer will help young people better understand the policies, organizations, resources, and opportunities that exist to support youth employment, entrepreneurship, education, agriculture, technology, healthcare, leadership development, and community participation in their country. Objectives 1. Research youth development policies, institutions, programs, and opportunities in the volunteer's country. 2. Explain how national, regional, and continental frameworks influence youth development and employment opportunities. 3. Produce educational video content that helps young people understand available opportunities and how to access them. 4. Promote awareness of national youth commissions, ministries, agencies, and programs that serve young people. 5. Contribute to the African Lecture Series and Voices of the Emerging Africa knowledge platform. 6. Develop country-specific knowledge resources that can support youth empowerment and economic participation. 7. Encourage informed youth participation in national development. 8. Help build a network of youth policy and opportunity correspondents across Africa. 9. Contribute to public understanding of issues affecting youth employment and development. 10. Support AYM's mission of creating employment and economic opportunities for African youth.

Context

Continental Africa Initiative AYM is building a continent-wide network of youth contributors to document, explain, and promote youth development opportunities across Africa. Through research, digital storytelling, and educational content creation, volunteers will help bridge the gap between existing policies and the young people those policies are intended to serve. The assignment contributes to a growing library of country-specific and regional knowledge resources that will be shared through the African Lecture Series, Voices of the Emerging Africa, the AYM website, and social media platforms. Volunteers from all African countries are encouraged to apply. Applicants will research and present information relevant to their own country or region.

Task description

The 21st Century African Youth Movement (AYM) seeks volunteers from across Africa to research and present information about youth development policies, institutions, programs, and opportunities in their countries. Volunteers will serve as Youth Development Correspondents and contribute to the African Lecture Series and Voices of the Emerging Africa platform. Each volunteer will research topics related to youth employment, entrepreneurship, agriculture, education, technology, healthcare, leadership, innovation, community development, and public policy. Volunteers will prepare educational content that helps young people understand: - Youth policies and strategies. - National youth commissions and agencies. - Employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. - Government and development programs. - Skills development initiatives. - Agricultural opportunities. - Funding and business support programs. - Regional and African Union youth frameworks. Expected Deliverables - One 8–15 minute educational video per assignment cycle. - One supporting article or briefing note. - References and source materials. - Recommendations for improving youth awareness and participation. Content may be produced in English, French, Arabic, Portuguese, Spanish, or other major African languages. Where possible, English subtitles or summaries should be provided to support wider accessibility.
