What the volunteer will do

Mission and objectives

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection, and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. Context

The assignment will cover the contribution of the UN Volunteer to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Supply Section, the implementation of the supply chain management, by providing support and assistance to all staff in the assigned areas of responsibility.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Supply and Procurement Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Reviews incoming demand / sales orders to ensure completeness and appropriateness of specifications/Terms of Reference. Support the preparation of tender documents (Requests for Quotations, Invitations to Bid, Requests for Proposals) and supports the implementation of the tender process. 2. Supports sourcing of relevant suppliers of goods and services. 3. Supports evaluations of offers through e.g. preparation of tabulation sheets and assists in analysis of offers. 4. Drafts submissions to Contract Review Committee. 5. Assist in the preparation of contracts and purchase orders. 6. Ensures appropriate documentation of processes and data is kept on file. 7. Maintains all data to ensure correctness and availability of information for source and availability plan, logistics plan, delivery plan and actual delivery schedule. 8. Prepares Direct Orders (Purchase Orders) against existing Long-Term Arrangements (LTA) ensuring that the LTA has valid quantities and lead-time meets requirements. 9. Works closely with suppliers to ensure quality assurance and timeliness of deliverables. 10. Ensures continuous availability of data related to procurement including forecasting, requisitions received, orders placed, incoming goods, actual delivery schedules. Prepares periodic reports, and ad-hoc reports as needed. 11. Any other duties as requested by the supervisor. During the first month of the assignment, the UN Volunteer will work closely with his/her direct supervisor to finalize an agreed-upon work plan. The work plan should outline key objectives and activities and include regular check‑ins with the supervisor to review progress and receive performance feedback.

Living conditions and remarks
Türkiye offers relatively comfortable living conditions, particularly in major cities such as Ankara, the capital city, which has well-developed infrastructure, reliable public services, and a wide range of housing options. Ankara experiences a continental climate, with hot, dry summers and cold winters, occasionally with snowfall. As the administrative and political center of the country, the city hosts a diverse international and local population and provides access to government institutions, universities, healthcare facilities, and cultural amenities. Security conditions are generally stable, and international personnel can access both public and private healthcare services. While English is used in professional environments, basic Turkish is beneficial for daily interactions and integration into the local context. The UN Volunteer will be based in Ankara and be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. The Summary of UNV Entitlement (International Associate): All paid in USD currency - Current Monthly Living Allowance (MLA): USD 2,105 - Private insurance: Health, dental, life, and dismemberment coverage by CIGNA - Entry allowance (one-time payment): USD 3,500 - Dependent allowance and insurance are provided based on eligibility criteria. - Exit allowance: USD 225 per month, and upon the satisfactory completion of assignment - Annual leave: 2.5 days accrued per calendar month - Free access to different learning platforms and the UN & UNV network Notes: 1) The allowances are in no way to be understood as compensation, reward, or salary in exchange for the volunteer work. 2) It's important to note that UNV assignments are volunteer assignments, not employment. It does not apply to UN Volunteers who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations, or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their contracts.
