Mission and objectives
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (UNEP/ROAP) helps to implement its global programmes in the regions by initiating, coordinating, and catalyzing regional and sub-regional cooperation and action in response to environmental problems and emergencies.
Context
This assignment supports Output 2 of the Sustaining an Abundance of Forest Ecosystems (SAFE) project, which aims to develop local capacity on monitoring forest ecosystems and the impact of restoration activities. To achieve this, a series of country consultations will be conducted with participants such as national-level government officials, restoration site managers, technical staff and local community representatives, to explore how the Forest Restoration Impact Monitoring Framework (FRIMF) can be adapted to local contexts and needs.
The consultations will focus on exploring synergies between existing monitoring approaches and the FRIMF, as well as informing the design of future capacity-building activities. Language interpretation is critical in enabling meaningful participation from stakeholders and ensuring that local perspectives and priorities are captured. Through this contribution, the Online Volunteer will help strengthen inclusive dialogue and support efforts towards ecosystem restoration for healthy forests.
