What the volunteer will do
Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN (United Nations) organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UN Volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal and inclusive and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity.
Context
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is implementing a communications strategy for the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean during Q3 and Q4 of 2026. The strategy aims to strengthen awareness of UNV among potential candidates, position UNV as a strategic talent solution for UN entities, and increase the visibility of volunteer contributions across the subregion.
Given existing capacity constraints and the need to sustain implementation efforts, UNV ROLAC will engage an Online Volunteer to support the strategic coordination, monitoring and implementation of the Caribbean Communications Strategy. The volunteer will work closely with the Regional Communications Team and support the coordination and management of a small team of Online Volunteers who will contribute specifically to editorial writing and graphic design.
Task description

- Maintain and update a tracking system for planned communications products, deliverables and timelines.
- Review communications products developed by the Online Volunteer team, provide recommendations to ensure consistency, quality, narrative coherence, and alignment with the communications strategy, and support validation processes with the Regional Communications Team.
- Liaise regularly with UNV focal points and relevant colleagues in the Caribbean to gather inputs, facilitate content collection, support validation processes, and ensure ongoing coordination for the implementation of the communications strategy.
- Monitor implementation progress and document achievements, challenges, lessons learned and recommendations.
