Mission and Objectives

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme contributes to peace and development worldwide through volunteerism. We work with partners to integrate qualified, highly motivated, and well-supported UN Volunteers into development programmes, and to promote the value and global recognition of volunteerism. UNV is active in approximately 130 countries every year and is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Context

The UNV Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean is seeking the support of an Online Volunteer with experience in Jamaican Sign Language (JSL) interpretation to support an online interview. This interview will contribute to the development of a communication product aimed at highlighting the work and impact of UN Volunteers in the region. The selected volunteer will play a key role in ensuring accessibility and inclusion during the interview process by facilitating communication between the interviewee and the communications team. The assignment will take place over a short period (approximately one week), including prior coordination and participation in one online interview session.

Task Description

The Online Volunteer will support the UNV communications team by providing Jamaican Sign Language (JSL) interpretation during an online interview with a UN Volunteer who is deaf or hard of hearing. Specific tasks include: - Participating in a brief preparatory coordination meeting with the UNV communications team prior to the interview - Providing real-time interpretation during the online interview session - Supporting effective communication between the interviewee and the audiovisual communications specialist - Ensuring clarity, accuracy, and inclusivity throughout the interaction
