Mission and Objectives
Founded in 1948, WHO is the United Nations agency that connects nations, partners and people to promote health, keep the world safe and serve the vulnerable – so everyone, everywhere can attain the highest level of health.
WHO leads global efforts to expand universal health coverage. We direct and coordinate the world’s response to health emergencies. And we promote healthier lives – from pregnancy care through old age. Our Triple Billion targets outline an ambitious plan for the world to achieve good health for all using science-based policies and programmes.
WHO’s General Programme of Work fourteenth (GPW 14) defines WHO’s strategy for the five-year period, 2025-2029. It focuses on six strategic objectives to achieve measurable impacts on people’s health at the country level.
1. Respond to climate change, an escalating health threat in the 21st century.
2. Address health determinants and the root causes of ill health in key policies across sectors
3. Advance the primary health care approach and essential health system capacities for universal health coverage.
4. Improve health service coverage and financial protection to address inequity and gender inequalities.
5. Prevent, mitigate and prepare for health risks from all hazards.
6. Rapidly detect and sustain an effective response to all health emergencies.
Context
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which is unanimously adopted by 193 Member States at the United Nations General Assembly, commits all those countries to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 related targets, with Health featured prominently in the 2030 agenda.
SDG 3 requires countries to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages”, but the goals and targets are an integrated, indivisible package, and many others have a strong connection to health and well-being. Data is the core requisite for any level of decision making. Achieving the SDGs requires concerted action from a wide range of stakeholders, led by national governments. To add, documentation and knowledge sharing plays a major role in rolling up the good efforts made by members states, thus being an example for other countries.
WHO country office in Jordan supports the Ministry of Health leadership to efficiently lead the multiparters efforts in advancing SDGs through multisectoral collaboration which is a remarkable milestone in Jordan, resulted in enhanced SDG 3 governance and data generation, that is being adapted by other EMR countries.
In this context, WHO country office anticipates that online volunteers, dedicating approximately 20 hours per week, will be instrumental in helping us to support systemic review using descriptive and content analysis. This might include primary and secondary analysis of the articles to support our study.
