Mission and Objectives

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in nearly 170 countries and territories, including Mongolia, helping the country to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities and build resilience in order to sustain development results. UNDP has been committed to helping the Government and the people of Mongolia achieve the Sustainable Development Goals as well as other national development priorities through capacity development, knowledge sharing, partnerships, and policy dialogue. The ultimate goal of UNDP is to improve the lives of the people of Mongolia, especially the poorest and most vulnerable, and to work towards a future that offers equality, dignity and opportunity for all. We work with government, civil society, the private sector, development partners and funding organizations to support the attainment of Mongolia’s vision of national development.

Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is marking its 50th anniversary of partnership with Mongolia in 2026. To commemorate this milestone, UNDP Mongolia is producing a flagship anniversary publication that showcases the organization’s past achievements, present impact, and future priorities in support of sustainable development. UNDP Mongolia is seeking the support of an Online Volunteer Graphic Designer to lead the design and layout of this publication. The assignment will contribute to creating a visually compelling, coherent, and high-quality publication that reflects UNDP’s impact in Mongolia. Rather than being text heavy, the publication will emphasize photos, visual narratives, and design led storytelling to highlight UNDP’s past, present, and future in Mongolia.

Task Description

Under the guidance of the UNDP Mongolia Communications Expert, the Online Volunteer will support the graphic design and layout of UNDP Mongolia’s 50th anniversary publication. Produced in English and Mongolian, the publication will combine text with photography, infographics, milestones, human interest stories, and key messages to present UNDP’s journey and vision in an engaging and accessible way. The Online Volunteer will be expected to: - Propose a clear and creative design concept aligned with UNDP branding and the 50th anniversary theme. - Develop and apply a consistent visual style highlighting the three main sections on past milestones, current areas of work, and future directions. - Design infographics, graphic elements, and visual highlights to maximize visual engagement. - Design the full bilingual publication (English and Mongolian) and deliver a final product suitable for both print and digital formats. - Communicate with the UNDP team at least once per week, incorporate feedback, and revise designs as needed. All content (text and images) will be provided by UNDP Mongolia. The Online Volunteer will focus on visual interpretation, layout, and presentation. The final publication length will be determined through the design process and is expected to range from 50 to 100 pages, including the cover, copyright and disclaimer pages, chapter dividers, and three main sections. Deliverables The expected outputs of this assignment include: - A complete designed publication in line with UNDP branding guidelines. - Final print-ready and digital-ready files (e.g. PDF and editable source files) in English and Mongolian. - Individual design assets (e.g. cover design, infographics, section layouts) if requested.
