Mission and Objectives
The UNDP Sustainable Energy Hub is a network of partners that work alongside countries to transform energy systems though an integrated agenda focused on the policy, technology and financial shifts that shape sustainable economic development. We help countries build net-zero, people-centered societies driven by a just, sustainable energy transition. Our core principle is to promote an integrated agenda that supports energy for development, including by mobilizing partners to enable 500 million additional people to have access to sustainable, reliable, affordable energy by 2025, leaving no-one behind.
The global transformation of energy systems has already started, but is being altered by the current geopolitical context. However, this transformation must be accelerated, and it must be done in a way that advances the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Energy Hub is UNDP’s answer to these challenges. To drive the systems-level change needed, the Sustainable Energy Hub aims to bring about a completely new way of thinking, doing business, connecting people and knowledge.
UNDP’s 2022-2025 Strategic Plan has put sustainable energy at the heart of a joint corporate mission, and UN-Energy has pledged to reaching key energy milestones by 2025. UNDP will focus efforts on mobilizing partners and catalzing action to provide access to sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy – both electricity and clean cooking – to 500 million people by 2025, focusing on the world’s poorest communities. UNDP will not do this alone – our role here is to mobilize strong, meaningful, impactful partnerships to deliver action on the ground. We aim to bring about a new way of thinking about energy and advocate for an integrated, inclusive approach, where all stakeholders participate meaningfully in its design.
Context
The Sustainable Energy Academy (SEA) is a global digital learning platform developed by UNDP to drive tangible, on-the-ground impact by strengthening national capacities and fostering a global community of energy practitioners. It positions energy as a core enabler of sustainable development, linking energy planning and policy to critical nexus areas including water, food systems, finance, health, employment and social protection, climate and security, and gender equality.
The Academy comprises nine learning modules that integrate structured lessons with data visualizations, infographics, interactive tools, video content, and AI-powered knowledge graphs. As the platform moves toward public release, UNDP is mobilizing volunteers to support the final validation, refinement, and localization of key learning assets.
Applicants are encouraged to highlight relevant experience in the sustainable energy sector, as well as demonstrated expertise in English-language editing and content development, particularly in relation to energy policy and development.
Task Description
Volunteers will support the final refinement of one of the nine module of the Sustainable Energy Academy (approximately 50 pages of structured content per module). Each module is already drafted and requires a final technical and editorial consolidation to ensure coherence, pedagogical integrity, and alignment with current thought leadership in sustainable energy for development.
- Narrative and Pedagogical Structuring
Review and restructure all module content to ensure a clear, logical progression across lessons and chapters, strengthening narrative continuity and alignment with defined learning objectives through applied instructional design principles.
- Content Refinement and Clarity
Edit text for precision, concision, and consistency in terminology, ensuring alignment with UNDP narrative framing and strengthening analytical depth while avoiding generic or descriptive language.
- Key Takeaways and Learning Outputs
Refine all key takeaways and framing from global discourse on sustainable energy, ensuring consistency with UNDP positioning.
- Case Study Validation and Alignment
Review and validate all case studies to ensure relevance to core concepts, strong analytical linkage to the lesson narrative, and proper integration into the overall content flow.
The final result will be a fully refined module that is narratively coherent, pedagogically sound, and technically aligned with current sustainable energy discourse. The content should be structured for seamless integration into the Academy platform and ready for final publication.
