Video Editing Support for the OCHA Afghanistan

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) mobilizes and coordinates humanitarian action for all in need, in partnership with national and international actors. OCHA is the part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies. OCHA also ensures there is a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response effort.

Afghanistan remains a deeply fragile and crisis‑affected country, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of insecurity, including from cross‑border tensions and localized incidents of violence. While large‑scale conflict dynamics have shifted, serious concerns persist over the protection of civilians and restrictions against women and girls' participation in the public sphere. Violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law continue to be reported, including civilian casualties, restrictions on fundamental rights and freedoms, and incidents affecting civilian infrastructure and essential services. At the same time, Afghanistan is prone to earthquakes, flooding, drought, landslides, and avalanches. Over three decades of conflict, coupled with climate change, environmental degradation, and insufficient investment in disaster risk reduction strategies, have contributed to the increasing vulnerability of the Afghan people to cope with the sudden shock of natural disasters and increased risks posed to livelihoods. On average, each year, around 230,000 people are affected by natural disasters. Destruction of shelters, crops, food stocks, and damage to household and community assets such as water and sanitation infrastructure result in the need for emergency support to protect people from the elements. Please note that fluency in Dari, Pashto and English is required for this assignment. The Online Volunteer will support the Information Management and Public Information Unit by providing video editing and multimedia production support for digital communication and social media platforms. Main responsibilities include: - Edit short videos, reels, and motion-based content for social media platforms (Between 2-4 videos per month, around 1 min long) - Create animated videos and data visualizations based on reports, statistics, and key messages - Adapt video content for different platforms (X, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) - Develop and adapt video and multimedia content in English, Dari, and Pashto. - Ensure high-quality audio, visual consistency, and clear storytelling across all outputs - Ensure timely delivery of edited content in line with publication schedules - Ensure all products strictly follow UNOCHA branding, visual identity and communication guidelines Please note that fluency in Dari, Pashto and English is required for this assignment.
