Mission and Objectives
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility is located within the Front Office of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO), part of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations (DPPA-DPO). The WPS Facility strengthens gender-responsive rule of law support to Member States, UN entities, justice and security institutions and other stakeholders, in line with international gender equality norms and the Security Council Resolutions WPS.
Context
The Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Facility of the Peacebuilding and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) is seeking a skilled and motivated online volunteer to support the design and development of the UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security. This initiative is part of the project entitled “Accelerating the Women, Peace and Security Agenda and Young Women’s Empowerment through UN Assistance to Rule of Law and Security Institutions (Phase II).”
The UN Portal on Women in Justice and Security will be the first centralized, publicly accessible repository of data and good practices on women’s participation in justice and security institutions worldwide. It will address critical data gaps related to women’s participation, including barriers and progress, showcase Member States’ good practices, and support evidence-based policymaking and gender-responsive reforms in the justice and security sectors.
The volunteer will design and develop a user-friendly UN Portal webpage presenting findings from a global survey on women's participation in the justice and security sector. Using tools such as Power BI, the volunteer will translate quantitative and qualitative data into an interactive webpage featuring data visualizations, short narrative context, and visual materials. The volunteer will collaborate with relevant colleagues to ensure accurate integration of datasets and compliance with applicable standards, including those governing data protection.
This volunteer assignment offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the development of the first centralized UN global data platform on the status of women in justice and security. The resulting webpage will shape how findings on women’s participation in justice and security institutions are accessed, understood and shared by global audiences, strengthening advocacy, transparency, and evidence-based policymaking. The outputs will serve as long-term digital asset supporting PBPSO’s work on gender equality. The volunteer will directly support the Women, Peace and Security agenda and the UN’s broader mission of advancing peace, justice, and strong institutions (SDG 16), as well as gender equality (SDG 5).
