Mission and objectives
UN-Habitat is the United Nations programme working towards a better urban future. It promotes socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. UN-Habitat India works closely with national, state, and local governments, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and development partners to support sustainable urbanization, housing, climate resilience, urban governance, and inclusive development initiatives across the country. As part of its communication and outreach efforts, UN-Habitat India seeks to strengthen its digital presence and improve dissemination of knowledge products, project updates, publications, events, and engagement activities through an updated and user-friendly web platform.
Context
UN‑Habitat India website (unhabitat.org.in) is a CMS-driven, content-centric web platform designed to manage and publish dynamic information such as projects, reports, news, and events. It uses a modular, database-backed architecture with structured sections (About, Projects, Knowledge, Publications, Events) and supports media management and content workflows for regular updates. Its overall structure and functionality are consistent with an enterprise CMS like Drupal 8 and 9 versions running on PHP with a MySQL database, ensuring scalability, role-based content management, and responsive design for accessibility across devices.
UN-Habitat India regularly develops knowledge products, reports, communication materials, event updates, and documentation related to housing, urban development, climate resilience, and sustainable urbanization. To improve accessibility, outreach, and stakeholder engagement, there is a need to strengthen and support website development and digital communication systems. The Online Volunteer will support the enhancement and maintenance of web-based platforms and assist in improving the digital presentation of programme-related content and resources.
