Mission and Objectives
MISSION:
Empowering men, women, youths and the disadvantaged with the tools necessary to help them improve the quality of their lives. We want the oppressed, the poor and less privileged to live a life of meaning and worth. Key programs of Goodness and Mercy Missions since 2007 are: Women Economic empowerment initiatives, child sponsorship, hassle free education for underprivileged children, computer training and youth livelihood projects.
Context
Goodness and Mercy Missions (GMM) is deeply committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women in the rural communities of Cameroon’s North West Region. The founder’s own experience—growing up in a household where cultural barriers prevented his mother from making independent financial decisions—placed women’s empowerment at the heart of the organization’s mission. Understanding the psychological, economic, and socio-cultural barriers that women face is crucial for designing effective programs and policies. This research forms part of GMM’s ongoing initiative to address gender inequality and strengthen women’s participation in community development and decision-making, in alignment with SDG 5 (Gender Equality). The project, titled “Psychological and Socio-Cultural Foundations of Women’s Empowerment in Rural Cameroon,” examines key factors such as self-confidence, societal expectations, financial autonomy, and social perception within the context of Anglophone Cameroon.Findings from this research will help GMM design evidence-based community programs that empower women and enhance inclusivity in local development. GMM seeks four Online Volunteers with complementary expertise in writing, data analysis, data visualization, and literature review. The combined efforts will result in one comprehensive research report, analyzed data sets, and a set of 8–10 visual outputs. GMM intends to publish the final report on its official website and share it.
Task Description
Online Volunteer 1&2 – Writing and Editing Support
Draft and consolidate main sections of the report (introduction, methodology, and conclusion). Ensure consistency, clarity, and academic tone across all sections. Edit the final report and prepare the executive summary and PowerPoint presentation for dissemination.
Online Volunteer 3&4 – Literature Review Support Conduct a literature review on the psychological and socio-cultural dimensions of women’s empowerment, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa and crisis-affected communities. Summarize relevant findings from academic and policy sources to strengthen the theoretical framework. Provide a 3–5 page literature synthesis to be integrated into the final report.
Online Volunteer 5&6 – Data Analysis Support (Quantitative)
Analyze data sets provided by GMM using statistical tools such as Excel, R, or Python. Produce data tables and key findings summaries (5–7 pages) focusing on variables such as women’s confidence, financial decision-making, societal norms, and community participation in the North West Region.
Online Volunteer 7&8 – Data Visualization and Report Coordination Support
Design 8–10 data visualizations (graphs, charts, and infographics) to represent the analytical findings. Prepare a visual appendix to accompany the final report using software such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio. Support task coordination among all volunteers and ensure alignment of sections. Review and proofread drafts for accuracy, structure, and coherence.
